No, mate. Go now. When the rains and thaw are happening, you can't get near the place because of the raging torrent at the mouth. Use your hydrofuge to concentrate the black sand and particulates then pan them. I used to use a pan alone and stand knee deep in the water near the edge of the silt at the mouth of the canal. Do it when the water is as calm as it can be and the gold will very slowly fill your pan. I could do about a gram in an hour's time if I hit a good spot. I don't think this old back would stand up to it any more. I'd need to figure out a way to sit down in the surf. Not easy, eh?
The nice thing is, you have plenty of water (the ocean) and plenty of visual clues as to where the black sand is gathering (it forms streams of black sand in the golden brown sand). You can see it. Take a Sunday afternoon and bring a pan along.
