I've always thought that I'd be good for the show Junk yard wars. Too bad they never had a show for building gold wash plants and then see which team finds the most gold.... LOL I can picture it now... No no! Crazy Idiot Violent

Not to keep anyone hanging on this project, but I'm giving up the trommel plans for the time being and going with a regular highbanker set up.  Angry The pump I was building is also on the back burner for now, but will be made into a mini dredge for my son to use later. Great  I'm getting a nice trash pump later this week and will start building that set up and crash box on my next free day. I'll post pics of the entire rig when I get it finished. Meanwhile, I'm still enjoying all the reading here on the forum.

The trommel is definitely the way to go as apposed to a highbanker, but even if you use plans there are way too many bugs to work out. I have two trommels, both I bought and only one works. The other is a project. I got to know the guy who built my trommel pretty well, and when I saw what all went into his trommels I wasn't ashamed to spend 25oo on that particular piece of equipment. I have seen some pretty cool ones in N. Idaho, everyone seems to have a different take on the process. When I go on my trip memorial day weekend, I will try to remember to take good pictures of all of the trommels up there.

Cheers

Sean

Go Up Go Down

Sean,
Don't get me wrong, I am still going to build the trommel, just not a priority at the moment. I might have time to finish it before I go to Indiana for Memorial day weekend. However, I'm building the crash box/grizzly so I can use it either way. If I get the trommel done before then, great, if not, I'll use the hopper set up. I got discouraged when I ran into a few problems trying to bodge together the pump and little engine. I have to step back and re-design most of that set up, so it's on the back burner for now.
I have a bad habbit of having too many projects going on at once. I'm also in the process of starting up an E-scrap & refining business at the moment and that has been taking up a lot of my time. There is a LOT involved in refining and scrapping, but I'm getting the idea so far. Wish me luck.
My neighbor is from Idaho (SE corner) and tells me about his father taking him to the north part of the state when he was young to prospect. I'd love to make it up there one day as well. Have fun and get lots of pics along with all that gold you're bringing home to send to me Funny I look forward to learning more from your experiences. Pray Wise
Good luck and have a safe trip when you go.

Live long & prospect, Jim

I grew up just above Senaca in North Carolina and I prospect a good bit in that general area as well as the Abbeville, McCormick area of South Carolina...There is gold to be found in a good many creeks in this area...In fact the GPAA has a site in that area!  Good luck...
