hi I was thinking of a sluce that would be easy to travel with in the back country, When the previous post mentioned a backpack it got me thinking about custom making something out of an old backpack. Just sort of hold the sluce onto the backpack, perhaps with a cover for the sluce so as not to attract attention to the activity

I have a simmilar tool with the fork at the end from the first post, mine is garden weeding tool, I got it because it looked like a good crevice scraper.

Hell , I use a spoon if I have one. Hub Caps, Even a paper plate one time.

Here in NewZealand, its famous to use the no 8 wire for just about everything one can invent. So just get a bit of this stuff, normal fencing wire and put a hook on the end of it for a top crevice scraper. spoons or forks knives arnt to bad, but no 8 wire has a good reach

I had an old framed backpack. I put the sluice on it and then a pack holding almost everything else needed to prospect and pan fit snugly into the sluice. I had to put my big green pans on the outside of the pack and then just bungied everything onto the frame. I slid my pick into the bungies and even my shovel (full size) on the side of the pack. It was balanced and comfortable and I could hike anywhere with it. I could go anywhere without the pack ever feeling heavy.

Hello All, Daddio that sounds like a good setup you have there with the backpack. I was also thinking about the idea Eugene had with the folding sluce. My idea on that would be a slightly smaller 2nd half of the sluce box, So you could slide it together. So a 1m box would slide to 50 cm box when not in use. Eugenes folding box is probly not a bad option also. It would be nice to se some new tools that some members have put together...

This small pack comes in at 7-8 lbs, has a shovel, rock hammer, 3 gold pans, sample containers, 2 black sand removers, snuffer bottle and a real map and compass. I use this small pack on my 30 year old BMW motorcycle to get to some fair ground you can't get to with a car. Yes there is a small amount of gold in 1 of the sample bottles, found at lunch stop while geocaching.
