Greetings ya'll,
I've been an avid reader of this forum for a while now however I didn't post before! Great stuff bless you all  Wise  Clapp

This gold bug got me not long ago after a friend's proposal to invest in small scale gold prospecting operations overseas. Prospecting there is manual (digging for rocks in desert-crush the stones-pan and recover by running mercury on the pan), now that said I've never got involved in any gold prospecting activities before but I am taking this offer.

My plan is to first start with small sampling operations- by far I figured my best set up for sampling is to acquire Mountain Goat trommel + the desert fox

. I wanna go compact and at the same time process a respectable amount of material, would you recommend that set up? any other recommendations to cut the manual labor as much as possible.

Q2. What equipment would you recommend for processing 2-4 tons of material per day ?

Thank you in advance   Detecting

That's a lot of material for one person.

Make your 5 posts to become a full member and you can download a few plans from the downloads section here. There's a manual ore crusher that you can build, a few rocker boxes and sluices. Also, you might want to look for some copies of Sam Radding's Plans Books. He wrote two volumes on building your own prospecting gear.

Thank you, I sure look forward to see these plans.
2-4 tons is alot indeed that is why am shopping for good machines. The good part is that the material I'll have to deal with is already crushed rocks, so no crushing for me just processing.

cheers   Waveing

Gold can still be inside a pea sized pebble so you need a pulverizing crusher no matter how small the tailings are. When you have to crush the rock in a stamping mill, the fine dust will contain flour gold and tiny pieces flattened by the crusher. Are you expecting the gold to be visible? It may not be visible until you pan it.

By the way, your answer gave you full membership. Head on down to the downloads area!

GD,

Where is the plans to the crusher located?

Geberal,

Mountain Goat and Desert Fox are great... for the desert or home cleanup. Opt for a high-banker or one man trommel if it is on dry land, go for a small dredge if it is in the drink. If you need to recirculate your H2O then a recirculating high-banker is a great option as well. If you are going through hardrock mine tailings you may consider a good GOLD detector to assist. Dredge tailings are good, just classify and shovel away.

Peace

Sean

Good question, see where I am going they just started a new gold rush in virgin lands that have a massive potential, my goal is to introduce proper placer mining to them, they use mercury and its bad for everybody. They never heard of sluices, trommels, spiral wheels and all that, I am hoping to convince them to use modern methods and give up mercury but in order to do that I need to provide them with an efficient replacement. So to answer you, I am doing both my own prospecting and process for other minders as well.

To work that amount of materials a day your going to need a bigger machine!  LOL!

The Goat would not be able to move more then 1/4 yard in a day.  The Fox less then that.

Thanks Sean, it seems to me that mountain goat & desert fox are a hit or miss! I get totally different opinions on them, mostly positive however. I am glad its working for you, how much material (roughly) they process per day (8 hrs)? I'm thinking about running mountain goat with pro camel instead of the fox, would you recommend that?
