New to prospecting.  I came across some gold ore this last summer and I'm going to try my hand using a metal detector in the area this week.  Any idea how this ore looks?

Thanks,

Kasbah

There is a gold hunter's club in Boise that owns the rights to a couple of claims.  The membership fee is cheap.  I'll be there in the spring and plan on hooking up with a few clubs so I can gain their knowledge, for example, how would one extract the gold from these rocks.

I pulled an assay of the fines from where I broke these rocks off with my excavator and the results were half a gram per ton.  I'm going to go through the rocks with a metal detector first and then break these rocks up further to take some more samples.  I found this vein about 18 feet below existing grade while constructing a new driveway.

Hi Kasbah looks like you got some interesting rocks. I notice a bit of red in the 3rd pic, Have you still go that sample rock? this was the one I was thinking was most interesting. Good luck with your future ore sampling's   Cool

1 gpt is not a lot. You will spend a lot of money and not find much gold. The other question is the nature of this gold. Is it in sulfides, or is it free gold? If it is in sulfides you will need a processing plant, or sell the raw or to a potential buyer. The processing plant will involve cyanization... hard rock mining is pretty intense. If you are not experienced in the process, I would avoid it.

Also, Idaho Gold Prospectors Assoc. is an awesome club. Great people with a lot of information, not to mention great land access. I will be dredging there this summer for a few weeks.

Cheers

Go Up Go Down

All of this rock has come from a mineralized spire that was almost impossible to break off with my 80K excavator wit a thumb and bucket.  I ended up working it from all sides and it broke into seveal pieces.  This was it as it was coming out of the ground.  I scraped together a handfull of materials from under the broken rock and sent it in for an assay.  I subsequestly covered this spot back up with a foot or two of material and I'm going to dig the area up when the sno leaves.  I took a borrowed X-TERRA 305 metal detector over there today and used it for the first time.  I briefly read the manual and I'm going to have to practice with it.  I got a couple of overload indicators on it and a bunch of beeps but I don't know what it all means.  I'm going to take 20 assay samples from the face and around the spire to confirm what's there as soon as the snow leaves.

Thanks for the input.  BTW does anyone have any advice on the collection and analysis of assay samples, for example, test method, costs, expected turn around times, reccomended labs, etc?

Kasbah
