Hi everyone, I just saw this on the GPAA website. GOOD NEWS!!

COMING SOON: Senate Bill 765 declared dead on arrival
Mar 2

Written by: Article Admin

By Brad Jones
GPAA Editor / Content Director

An outspoken Oregon state senator who has tried to put a crimp in the hoses of out-of-state suction dredgers appears to have backed down ? at least for now.

In a sudden about-face move, Sen. Jason Atkinson, R-Central Point, announced March 2 that Senate Bill 765, which would have imposed $2,500 non-resident fees on out-of-state suctions dredgers, is now dead.

Atkinson launched a media campaign last summer ?declaring war? on out-of-state suction dredgers and sent a clear message to California miners that they were unwelcome in his state. He wrote a series of letters to Oregon newspapers explaining his stance against the popular small-scale mining practice, particularily on the Rogue River.

The bold move raised the eyebrows ? and ire ? of small-scale miners and led to a nationwide backlash.

I am so happy I can hardly contain myself... but this guy needs to be watched. He is clearly a threat to us, and probably has some card up his sleave waiting for the right hand.

Cheers and thanks to all that wrote the senators.

Sean

He won't pose any problems any time soon I'm sure. And hopefully be out of office before he does have any chance to try this again or worse. Big time kudos to those who wrote. I found out about this a bit too late to send a response myself. We all have to keep this hobby alive and sticking together and saying" No you don't" Angry to those who oppose us is the only way. "Live together, die alone"..... :Smiley Some of might get that one.

There's a title to a fine film "Never Say Never" this clown could just jump up after the season is over and try something else.  He must be watched and every effort by the right thinking folks of his constituency must work hard to unemploy him next election.  I'm not a dredger (too rich for my meager funds) but I do believe that gubment is getting too big for it's pants and needs to be slapped down at every chance we get.

Up the revolution,
Gramps

Sean:

With the price of those gizmo's where they are my meager monthly stipend, given grudingly by the wife, I'd have to save for a whole year to get one and that doesn't include the wet suit, weights, breathing apperati and so on.  It's just my luck that I'd get all that gear and kerpop I'd be assuming room temp..  Plus it would kinda hard to put all that gear in one of the Mustangs I plan on winning. Grin

Reckon I'll just stick to shallow water work with pan and the hand suction unit I'm putting together.  The only possible prob with that plan is that there's not a big history of gold in this area but as soon as the skies clear for more than a day or two and the streams & creeks go down I'll see if I can't change that.

Take care out there,

Gramps

Yep!  That's my stand too.

Gramps is right, I'm sure he's got something up his sleeve. Never is a politician going to back down on something unless there's another option on the table "I'll give you this, if you let the bill die". With something like this bill, I doubt that there's any blackmail going on, so it's got to be some sort of bartering going on for an even better deal.
Good luck dredgers!
 Smiley
