If you think about it there has got to be a couple of nuggets in those streams. I doubt that  they found the only nugget in the stream and you can be pretty sure that with their technology and the fact that there must have been really difficult working conditions, they also definitely did not find the last. I wonder if anyone else has ever given this a bash.I don't think using sluices and stuff and buckets/pans are necessarily the best routes to take......it's them nuggets that you want.
Although it would be cool to try.
As far as I can remember it is nice peaty kind of soil or am I mistaken?

Today ain't going to happen, thick mist outside but it may burn off a bit later so we'll see.(pun) Crazy
Goldnboy once I'e taken some pics of the area and shown you guys the scenery you'll probably all be heading this way on 'business'. I mentioned before that I knew nada regarding gold and prospecting/detecting but I think like Viking said there has to be something out there that was missed? Especially with the newer technology available nowadays.

I won't find any bears there but still the remote chance of an elephant as there are still a few wild ellies in the area but very illusive. Knysna forest elephants. I should also try and find my coil cover I suppose, lots of rocks in the streams and rivers. I do have an idea for the seperation of the gold flake/dust but will post that in the relevant forum(Prospecting) as I'm not sure whether or not it may be a viable method or has been tried before.

Hi all,
Orcaman we are in the prospecting forum and the subject is about a trip to the goldfields. So feel free to tell about your idea for separation of gold dust and flake?I have some knowledge of gold recovery and I'm sure other people will likely read your post and  offer advice.  A slice box is a good method when you have water available. Panning should show the gold if its there also. Best of luck

Go Up Go Down

I decided to slip out and go and check the proposed area. Nice ride on the bike and as scenic as it gets around here. Some great looking rivers and streams but I'm not really sure if I know what I'm looking for so I took some pictures and even collected two jars of sand and gravel. Just randomly scooped as I didn't fancy getting naked in the middle of nowhere! I'm Andy not Adam.

I walked up the river about 150-200 meters or so, got a load of ticks on me, didn't really find a decent place to camp so will more than likely try this soon as a day trip. It's about 50kms from my town. I would think siphoning at the deeper spots, on the down-river side of the bigger rocks(eddy) would be good? A little up the river I could hear a small waterfall so I'm sure I could get a siphon going and collect sand/silt.

What do you guys think? This is in the same region as where the owner of Ruigtevlei farm found his first nugget+-15km radius I think.

Cheers and HH

Orcaman Victory

Hi Orcaman

Judging by the color of the water it's polluted not to mention the oil on top  Grin better watch out you don't melt in there, loads of rocks too.
