Hi I'm thinking of making a Plexiglas sides sluice with alum bottom 6 foot long (dredge)for my gold hog scrubber matting so I can see the pitch and flow rate.Any ideals?

Sounds good to me .   Only thing I can think bad is that the Plastic is a bit Brittle.   May Break at the tied points.Huh?

Plexiglass is so soft that scratches wound soon make impossible to evaluate your flow rate.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Actually it doesn't scratch too bad since the water flow keeps it lubricated, but perhaps after long use it might wear. My son and I built a couple special drop riffle designs from it and it held up well to use, but abuse not as well. Like Homes said it's brittle so I would go thick as you can afford. We used it for the entire design, and it does allow a nice side view. If it does become scratched you can polish it back out. It's definitely not the best material to use but it does allow visibility

I had a fish tank made of the stuff. 50 Gal.    It scratched up every time you cleaned it up but the water made it look more clear then scratched.

Probably the same effect Homes, the water fills the void much as the acrylic originally did and lets the light travel more normally I suspect. I looked closely at my sluice last night and it does have some tiny pits that dull the bottom of the sluice right at the infeed like a sandblaster would make, which is in effect what happens by streaming abrasive material. Very little effect on the walls though so it would probably do fine for what Jaguargene wanted. Most of the scratches on the sides are from me banging it into stuff.  Grin Good hunting
