Golddigger, Do you have a link showing one? Why I thought of a flat one is being able to use for gold, gems, and maybe even relics.

Right now I'm thinking the two legs blocked some how to keep it from folding up, but still wobble good. The single front leg attached either with a hinge or piece of pipe and straps. That will take the weight off. Trying to make it easy to break down or swap out trays will be the challenge. Another way may be a simpler would be making something like a rocking horse. Still trying to flesh out even the general direction. Right now ruled out my original idea with four legs just sticking down.

I was thinking the rocking horse idea sounds good. Adjustable legs could come in handy also. Some old tent poles cut down to size could do it.  Cool

Another idea, more weight then I would want. But using the frame of an old glider rocker. And maybe the lightest using one of the spring loaded rocking horse frames to make one.

There is one in the Sam Radding plan book but I don't have a scan and won't scan it because it's still in print. Sorry, copyright and all.

If you are going to sort things by hand, then a flat one is good. If you want to speed up the process, you do need to move the material over the screens and a slanted set of screens will do that for you. As others have pointed out, a rocker is better than shaking. Your wife would have biceps like Hulk Hogan before long if she had to shake it.

I think I may go thrift store or garage sale hunting and try a rocker. My wife was laughing when I was bending over our glider rocker we have and just said  "No your not getting that" .  I found a cement mixing tub which would work and work for panning over or cleaning out the sluice.

Well, first step on it. Stopped by 4 different thrift stores and only found one and its a wood rocker. I probably should have waited until I find a spring type. Started thinking the dirt dropping through may hinder the rocking. With a spring type that would not happen. So still going to look for one. But for $5 I really can't complain. At least it cuts down on a fair amount of work and materials needed. Picked up some pre-drilled angle to make the frame for the sieve. I'll take some photos as I go and post them when I finish.

Okay, first step pretty much done. Right now I'm just doing the bottom level. I have the frame to set the sieve in ready. First one is I am building is going to be a mid range sieve for gems. I am going to do a metal sheet. See second picture for the sheet. Right now I'm not real worried about small stuff making it through. Since the next spot will be topaz and if its any smaller it would not be worth goofing with. Most gem places do use smaller holes about 1/8 inch. But you really can't do any thing with that size except maybe put them in a bottle for something sparkly. Then 1/4 inch for the large one. I figure if I want any other sizes later I can add on. With this she can either use her feet to shake or arms. I'll set another level toward the top enough to get the bottom one out easily.

I just took Mr. cow off.

Need another trip to the hardware store to pick up shorter bolts which join the ends together.
