Hi Dennis

Doing my rounds of about ten sites now in North Wales, I looked in on the 'lake' at the weekend. Very little water available, so no chance of getting even a small sluice working.
So I hiked up to the top of the hill and panned the stream on the plateau, before it plunges into the ravine. I used quarter inch down to flour seive. Absolutely nothing in it, no magnetic sands, no pyrites even. So, there could be a rich quartz vein somewhere between the top and the lake. Shouldn't be too hard to run a detector over a few hundred feet of clean exposed rock. So, I need to take a climbing course and buy some ropes.

Pity you can't stand at the top and keep an eye on me buddy.

I'll second that last thought but unfortunately finances don't permit globe trotting.  I plan on checking more of the rivers and creeks in my neck of the woods, that is if the Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management haven't gated off the roads.  If I'm gated out I'm going to have to get in touch with some folks and see if this district can't be added to a law suit currently being adjudicated against another district.

They say they are doing this to protect it for future generations, to "H" with future generations what about the present generations.  I'm sitting here wanting to recreate (read as prospect) and these socialist dogs won't let me.  We'll see what happens this weekend, I'll give ye a report come Monday.

Take care out there and please be safe,
Gramps

Brian,

Well this weekend was not as productive as I wanted.  Saturday I we had to our new car over to the dealer in Portland to have them look at the pass. side brake light, it was intermittent.  To keep from a two week delay for parts they remove the needed part from a car in inventory and fixed ours which we appreciated.  That pretty well ate up that day.

Took at drive up the Kilchis Rvr. to the tune of five bridges but in most cases the road was well above the river and at my age mountain climbing isn't and option, I did however find a couple of spots to look at later.  I didn't do any thing because the bursitis in my right shoulder is acting up, I was in agony yesterday with the pain even going up into my neck so I just went looking today.  Gonna have to get something done about it can't get my up past 90°.

I also drove up the N. Fork of the Wilson Rvr. and found several spots where access is good but I've got road to run to find more spots.  Gotta get something done here before the weather changes and it gets sloppy wet and all the rivers and creeks become too high to work.

Take care,
Gramps

Roger that RR this is an old problem from back in my service days.  It flares up every once in a while and then settles down for a time.  It's been pretty nasty this time, I reckon I'll have to see my doc over at the Veterans Administration Hospital and get a cortizone shot, ouch.

Go Up Go Down

Hi friends
On 12th August I was resting up, just about to head off for Powys at dawn and someone stole my van at about 1.30am, right outside my house. It was recovered that evening about 40 miles away when a resident reported it abandoned outside his house, so thanks to him. However, all of the metal and wooden storage boxes with materials, socks, medications etc, including minute samples from six rivers (last trip only) were missing from the passenger seat area (I removed this to make room). But all of my panning equipment was still in the back. It took a while to work out who did it. Who would want an old van anyway? Days passed, my lodger phoned telling me his mum was in hospital, was I still there? The following week he phoned again, asking if I was still at the house. I told him police had found a fresh fingerprint on the steering column. He hasn't phoned since. All of his personal possessions are in the house, including a lot of paperwork, passport, driving licence, birth certificate, credit card. His bedroom was in a terrrible mess, so I decided to tidy it up. This guy turns out to have thousands of pounds of debts, a trail of short term addresses. Many lies are uncovered, such as the fact that he isn't a qualified electrician and that he has only been working for his current employer for 2 years, not 15. It seems he is too afraid to return to my house, even to collect his passport and other essential docs, his computer, clothes, tv etc. So, I changed the locks, put all his stuff in the shed. Such a nice young man I thought. I'd made the mistake of inviting him on a panning expedition. So maybe he thought I carried around massive ingots in my van.
