Just bullet fragments and micron gold for me sad to say. Sad But there is no bad gold.) Glad to say I will be going again tomorrow AM (Saturday the 19th here). I will be on a club claim this time. Members have been finding gold there for years. It's my time now.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Thanks Xavier. Again I got snookered. When I got to the claim there was a short rainfall that just dampened the ground, but no water in the creek. Angry I wasn't able to drywash or sluice. I got out the old MD and found some old square cut nails and an old musket ball all in small area in a foot of gravel sitting on bedrock, so I screened out a bucket of gravel and panned it with some water I had brought but found not nothing more. Then the sun came out and it got pretty muggy so I went back home. Guess I will have to wait till the creeks start running again.  Undecided Now I have time to go back to my PI projects that I have been neglecting. A good chance to try some of my new ideas.

Homefire,
good news! Stage II fire restrictions were lifted here July 5th in case you have not heard. Doesn't matter though. Our creeks are all dried up. Only thing that will work are drywashers, that if it doesn't rain.

Cheesy Ho cool. I'm looking to find a place here in Belgium to do some panning but all the places that I've found are to far for me at the moment. I would love to find some gold  Kiss

The law is very easy going in this respect same goes for metal detecting, we basically only have one law and that is the treasure that you find will be shared 50/50 with the owner of the property. As for prospecting don't do it in the park but by the river there's no problem although there are some rules to abide to (Normal)

Prospecting in the US is controlled by the  mining Act of 1892, which allows a anyone that is a US citizen to claim mining rights to a piece of State or Federal land that is open to mineral rights. An individual claim can be up to 20 acres. There are separate rules for placer claims and hardrock claims.
Treasure hunting is controlled by individual state and federal laws and varies from state to state. Meteorites belong to the person whose private land it falls on. Artifacts belong to the government and are protected. Sunken treasure follows international law concerning salvage rights. Correct me if I made a mistake Homefire.
