These are the responses I have received from the Oregon Senators regarding Senate Bill 765. I will more if they come in.

Dear Sean,

Thank you for your email regarding SB 765. I appreciate your concerns and will keep them in mind should this bill come to the full Senate for a vote.

Respectfully,

Peter Courtney

President of the Senate

Dear Sean,

Thank you for your comments on Senate Bill 765.  Senator Whitsett is strongly opposed to Senate Bill 765 and will actively work to stop its adoption.  Your opposition to the Bill is on file with our office.  Also, we recommend you contact the sponsors of this bill Senators? Atkinson, Hass and Bates to voice your opposition, as well.

Warm Regards,

Judy Trego

w/ Senator Doug Whitsett

900 Court St. NE S-303

Salem, OR 97301

Cheers

Sean

Bad idea, those get filed for records. So, if or when they go back to see if the senator properly represented us he will have one more vote for the bill  Sad

Here's a copy of the letter I just E-mailed to Senator Betty Johnson regarding SB 765.  I'll post her reply when it comes over the transome.

Senator Johnson:

As you are a Democrat it?s a sure bet you didn?t get my vote, putting that aside the reason I?m writing you concerns SB 765.  There is an old saying out there that says ?don?t balance the budget on the backs of the taxpayers? well the same is true for visitors to our state.  Senator Atkinson?s bill is an onerous attempt to fatten the state coffers on the backs of recreational miners who might come to our state to visit old friends or meet friends made on the internet and have a little fun dredging for some of that ?purdy yeller stuff.?  These folks don?t just pop in and then out 15 minutes later, they will spend several days here and in all probability leave behind more ?gold? also known as bread, folding green, samolians or YENOM than they take out of the streams.

SB 765 is for want of a better name a ?cut off your nose to spite your face? bill that will do great harm to the tourism industry.

Senator Atkinson is an ?migr? to Oregon from California, I too am an ?migr? to the state but I was under military orders (73>80) (which I requested) and liked what I saw.  I also have an anchor in this county as I have two children buried in the Tillamook County Odd Fellows Cemetery.  I returned to Tillamook when I retired from the Air Force, this is my home, where I was born or lived before is immaterial, this is my home!

This little diatribe is of course to urge that you vote NO on SB 765 and keep the doors to our state open to visitors and there ?gold?

Dennis P. Sheridan, USAF Ret.

My plezzure monsur, I've whacked on the federal boys a several times for different things.  So far their replies haven't been very positive but I'll keep whack'n.

All we can do is hope and try to plead our case. Not that it will matter, they do as they please. Just need to keep fighting them.

If we all just roll over they get what they want.
