The problems here in the South West are opposite of there's.

We wait for the Heat to Die down and the ground is dry enough to dry wash.

Or

Wait for the spring , winter rains to provide enough water to use a sluice.

So it sorta depends on your mode of operations around here.

Cold and Winds can be a problem later in the year.

The Heat can kill you in the mid summers.

Here on the NW OR coast it's the rain from about OCT > APR that swells the rivers and along
with the cold makes things miserable.  MAY > AUG when the rivers go down it's time to make
hay, unfortunately there's not much gold in my county so I have to travel a bit get to it.

It just depends I pan spots in the winter looking for good areas to go back to after the thaw but sometimes when I make a good find I may tough it out as long as the temp is around 20 degrees below that I pull out. Once the snow melts and the ground thaws I use a metal detector to check the banks and dig where I get a hit. I was panning one spot this winter in the snow and getting very little color but it was both silver and gold so I tried a spot behind a boulder in the river and pulled a 2 and half gram silver nugget out but the next day the temp plummeted so i left the area but now winter is gone so I will be going back soon, ground is still frozen below 6 inches and a late freeze is due next week but soon, very soon

In Arizona you need to be aware of the location your going to  The state has a wide range of elevation and weather. Northern AZ is good in the spring, summer, and fall. But this is mostly in the higher elevations where the hot weather is not so pronounced.

Lower elevation gets too hot in the summer months so best time is spring and fall.

We have what are called the "monsoons". Drenching rains in summer from late June to first part of August. After a good rain its nugget hunting time. Always be aware of the weather. A flash flood can wipe you out easily, even one that is far away.

Southern AZ you can go all the time. Just know the weather conditions. The desert can get very cold in the evening and night. Higher elevations in southern AZ get some snow in winter.

thanks for sharing info it gives me a better idea of some of the variables  pertaining to locations and weather . the weather is not as predictable out west it can change fast here too but not like in higher elevations. sounds like you need to be prepared.   it can be rough or you can get washed away .    i heard stories of folks leaving their vehicles in t shirts and shorts  and the weather turn  and they get in a bad way or worse  in a hunters ed class were required to take by law if you were born after a certain year here  i took it with my son he had too to get a liscense  but i was glad i did in case i ever get to go huntin out west . theys alot to learn about survival and good decision making  when it comes the weather out there  that is not talked about or if so  folks dont heed  and is  or can mean life and death josey
