I`m wondering if any one can help me with a question I have  about a sluice box here in Utah  do I need to get a permit  to use one since it is not powered by any thing but running water ?

I'd check with the BLM office in your area. Regulations have gotten a bit muddy. Here in Idaho anything that reintroduces silt into the water course can be construed as needing a dredge permit which could even stretch to panning. I've never had any trouble but I'm usually off the beaten path a ways.

Rottie, as of now the answer is no you do not need a permit. its in the gold and fish pamplet rules
