Hi Karl, I live in Russellvile TN. Cross over the Smokeys and go to the peidmont. I haven't had an essay done on them yet but from what I saw of the nodules and how they were working them in Africa its my best guess at what I'm finding is. I'm trying to find someone to go prospecting new areas, can't find many interrested or with the time around here.

Tantalite 99.9 scrap going for $70-$80 a pound but might be increaseing soon as stockpiles decrease. A lot of mines seem to be tightening the supply until it does run up in value. Theres lots of it when you find it, but good luck getting a mineing permit here in the east. This is one of those minerals old timers didn't pay attention to but since the rare earth demand for green energy solutions large mineing companies have been quitely buy up claims and mineral rights to rare earths. I suspect the quite mineral rights and property purchases now going on in the peidmont is more for rare earths than gold. I have a feeling the price on this metal will quickly plumet as fast as it rises because there is likely a lot more of it discovered recently than has been let on about.

Congrats on finding this mineral, Rclaiborne4! Could I trouble you to wave the nodules in front of any metal detector with a display and let me know what target ID number comes up? Please let me know the approximate dimensions of the nodules and make and model of detector also.

You're doing the right thing...save up that tantalite and one day you'll be sitting very pretty indeed! Smiley

My Bounty Hunter Commando doesn't get a signal off it at all. I save all minerals nowadays just incase. I just recently learned that small amounts of platinum and gold is trapped in and on some of the garnets in some locations. Dumped most in my yard, now I'm about to go shuvel them up and pan them out again to crush up. Learn something new every day doing searches on Geological Minerals PDF files searches. Now I'm saveing all my concentrates and interesting mineral specimens.

I was getting $7.00 for a 40lb bucket of my black sands in El Paso years ago.

They were pulling some type of Rare Earths out of it.

Yeritium was what they was after.

Thanks for your trouble Rclaiborne4; maybe you could try turning off disc and increasing the sens?

And yes homefire...rare earths can be worth some decent money if one has the quantity! Smiley
