Go Up Go Down

Hi all! Hoping to hear from some people who use (or have used) a Vaquero for nugget shooting. I've heard some say that it will work well for small nuggets, (especially with the small coil) as long as they are not in the sub-grain range. I just purchased a Compadre for hunting in the parks, etc. I was amazed how sensitive it is to small lead shot (blew my F2 away). The Vaquero seems like a versatile machine and I like Tesoro's lifetime warranty. Any thoughts or opinions would be great. Thanks, Scott

The only detector for the price I can think is better would be the Old Lobo!

Yep, that machine would work more then fine on gold.

Your Wrong. It will find gold below grain size if ground bal is right.

Homefire, thanks for the response! I've read other opinions that said the Vaq would only find 4-5 GRAM pickers (I would consider those nuggets, not pickers). I know the Garrett Scorpion will find much smaller gold than that, and it operates on a similar frequency to the Vaquero. I just ordered the V today, and plan to go to some nugget bearing areas in the next 2 weeks out here in SoCal desert and start learning it. Thanks again, Scott.

I was kinda surprised myself. I think any detector could pick up a 4 gram nugget, I mean that's a touch over 1/8 of an oz! He must have meant GRAINS not GRAMS. Still a 4-5 grain picker is fairly small. I don't understand why people have such negative things to say about the Vaquero's ability on small gold, unless maybe they are salesmen that are trying to push people toward the Lobo? Hard to say, but I've found enough good reviews to be confident that it will work. Of course I need to swing it over some gold to actually find out! That's a whole nother story. Lol!

I have a Lobo ST and a Vaquero, tried the Vaquero out for a bit yesterday when the lobo got to heavy in the Wickenburg AZ area. I found it was easy to GB it when it needed it (not too frequently) and it hit some small targets (lead shot) I was using stock coil, but may try it with the Lobo coil next time. I realize you can remove the box on the Lobo but prefer to have controls near my fingers. Im new to nugget shooting but have detected parks and other areas for awhile with success. Smiley Im excited to see what both machines will find.
