Go Up Go Down

It seems that the Picking are getting slim.

People are thinking they can just go out and pick the gold off the ground.

In a way this is funny but the New folks don't follow the rules and make a mess of things.

There the Reason the GeoComm was shut down.

There the Reason for many new laws restricting prospecting in what was open areas.

Just something to think about.

I don't think pickings are getting slim. They always have been.  Consider the early prospectors. Individuals who supplied them made more then most of the prospectors.

First time I panned it took a few days of tylenol to get over it. Next couple times I had my sluice. Figured it would be easier. Faster yes, not easier just ran more dirt, and a couple days more of tylenol. It's funny the things I remember most about my trips is the time at the end of the day. Sitting around the fire and bs'ing. Or waking up in the morning drinking coffee and watching the sun come up. That is why I'll be going back.

You Know that, I know That but some folks read other things in the wind.

There is a New Rush going on and until they find out, there making a mess.

City Slickers making the Regulations, Notice Regulations Not Laws, just see the mess folks are doing.

People that have no idea about stepping on someone else's claim, Never mind what a claim is are going crazy.

The scarce nature of gold in the wild and the demand for it in the world drive prices. As a matter of note, burglaries are up worldwide. It's not just rude and pushy prospectors. Real prospectors have a respect for each other. The neo-prospectors seem to focus on their greed.

Such is life.

Hey, you gotta love the early Christmas sales.

Since the price of copper skyrocketed, empty houses are being stripped in the night. This is not a good time to be a metal fixture of any kind. People go on vacation and copper thieves strip their pipes. Oh, well. The new low temperature plastics are better and cheaper. Don't know of any plastic mines out there.

Go Up Go Down

I know this thread is a couple weeks old without comment but I'll add to it.  I've been in the mountains of Idaho a couple of weeks now and have been snooping around.  Part of the problem of the new-comers and law-breakers is a lack of credible education.  I was in a shop the other day thats sells panning equipment and slueths.  The employee was giving lessons on using a pan to a family.  I asked her where I could go to pan for gold LEGALLY and she told me just go find a stream and start panning.  She said if I get caught trespassing or on someone's claim, just act stupid and say I was lost.  She had no idea where I could go legally or how to sight someone's claim, and she couldn't tell me where to go to find the info I needed.  I've heard 10 different ways to spot a claim, everyone had a different answer.  It takes a little hard work to do all this legally and find good maps and info to stay out of trouble.  Those new comers aren't willing to put the time in that it takes.  But up here I've been told you'll be looking down the barrel of a gun if you're caught digging or panning on someone else's claim.  That will fix some of it.

And what I forgot to add was this:  If it were easier to locate the information and so so many different agencies weren't involved, maybe there would be more compliance.  If you want to go camping in a state or federal park, just follow the signs on the roads.  So why not for instance, have streams and other areas clearly marked for recreational prospecting in areas where there is a heavy demand for such things?  Just a thought.

Okletsee

We have some good info in the Prospectors Talk Board.

This program will tell you if there are claims in the area your looking at.

Next step would be to go to LR 2000 and get the records of owner/owners.

You could ask permission.
