If you want a one stop place for water levels in local rivers you can go to the

and chose by state or what ever criteria you want. I chose state. That brings you to another page and you can pick the state you are in. There are a lot of options on that page, but I picked a single state. Hit submit toward the bottom and you will get a real time listing of water flows available for where you picked. Kind of handy if you need to know water levels. One place I have gone to for fossils it is best picking if the water level is below 8 foot. But I figure this may come in handy for prospecting.

I did do a few searches before posting and didn't spot it. usgs, river level in separate searches also combined. Went through about 6 pages. And now I just tried it again with just usgs, most recent,  but even this post did not turn up? Doing a search for usgs river level did not turn up anything. Going to try the search again after this post, maybe since the usgs is in a link, it does not show up. (Grasping for straws.)

Just a side note.

They put in a natural gas fired power plant two miles from my house three years ago.

My water level in my well has dropped 20ft as a result.

That would be more then enough to dry up small streams in some places.
