Hey Vacman...

My name is Klondike Ike...

I am a professional gold miner..however, I started out just like you...WHERE DO I GO...?  Back in the 1960's..there were a lot of open claims and ground to work..however today..it is a bit more complicated and harder to find a good recreational panning spot....

I've casually known the principles of the GPAA since George Massey's boys were in diapers....and my recommendation to you is to join the GPAA..or the Lost Dutchman organization...both operated by the Massey's....

The GPAA has a very, very, very good book of claim with descriptions, maps and locations all across the US where you can go, as a member and camp, pan, sluice, metal detect, high bank...and fish..or just relax...

Look them up...www.goldfeverprospecting.com....

They also have regular outings where many members meet and work a common operation as well as each individual can do his or her own thing... and every one gets some gold to take home at these outings...

Good luck with your new venture...It really is a lot of fun...and once you find your own gold in your own pan from your own efforts....you'll be hooked for life...I know...it happened to me in the mid 1960's...and I am still at it...

Vacman, as usual Klondike Ike's suggestion has lots of merit.  I'll extend it even a little further, a lot of cities have GPAA chapters that have regular meetings.   The chapters often have group outings in addition to those put on by the national and/or regional organization.  Best of all, you have a decent chance of finding a mentor or two who are willing and able to show you the ropes including how to use all the various equipment.
