Great story. I visited the Fort Concho buffalo soldier barracks in San Angelo Texas and had read up on the freedom fighters history in general. Tough bunch of folks who served their country well.

"Civil War historians describe the war in the Indian Territory as "war to the knife and the knife was usually driven in to the hilt." . . . .  one fact that was accepted by the soldiers on both sides. Prisoners would not be taken. Quarter was not asked and it was not given, even to the unfortunate wounded who could not escape."

Tough terms - tough soldiers. Interesting article plus great links on the page. Thanks! Sue
