Appreciate you remembering Robert E. Lee with the post. He was a most honorable American gentleman & leader. Read the link you posted, Steve, clicked here and there afterwards. Until tonight, I didn't realize, during the war, the Federal Army buried it's dead on the lawn of Lee's home in retaliation for his allegiance to Virginia and that became Arlington National Cemetery. Thanks everyone.  If you ever get to Richmond.  Go and see Lee's house, especially the back door where the famous photo of him was taken by Brady shortly after the war.  You will be standing right where Lee stood.  Smiley

My friends and I often discussed the following scenario.  What would have happened if one lone Confederate soldier walked up to Lee right before Picket's Charge at Gettysburg and said "Marse Robert, I'm not goin'."  I'll tell you what would have happened.  They would have shot him.

However, no Southern soldier in his right mind would do such a thing to disgrace himself, his home and his family.  Something to think about anyway.

Thanks for the kind comments.
Steve
