     Here is a scan of the two lead palstaves I found.  The story of the recovery is found on Thunting.  Click on Information and Resources and go to articles or stories and find "Hurrah for Hoards."
     The lead palstaves my best relic find.   There are many bronze axes from various time periods but I have never even heard of lead ones.  Why are they lead?   I am afraid nobody will every know....only guess.

Hi Dave, outstanding finds, I have heard of these and have seen a few on the net that were found.  The way I understand it is, they were the poor man's axe head as Bronze back then was "expensive".  I have never found an old axe head but, may have found a Bronze Age Bronze bar last weekend used for trade or as money.  You have done well for only detecting a small amount of time in Europe, congrats!  HH and thanks for the interesting post, Mike

     Thanks for the nice comments.  Mike, we tend to hunt hilltops and wooded areas in Europe.    We wouldn't find as much as you would searching in fields, but perhaps the finds would be bigger as relics wouldn't be broken up by a plow.  Still, some awesome big finds have come from fields that were beyond the reach of a plow.  I am anxious to see your bronze bar.
