 old Swords can be worth quite a bit. I would love to find some old swords, Especially some samurai/ ninja
 swords... NIce find could be worth quite a bit, well done Smiley

Personally, I'd like to know how you can drop a sword and not notice. Then, how on earth does it go unnoticed? It's a sweet find, though.

I'm with you on that one.....unless it fell off a wagon in the baggage train or someone through it away while running for their life, it almost has to have been put there deliberately.   Even if it were lost in battle, odds are someone would have claimed it as the spoils of war.

Nice find! 

To answer your question, a lot of times cavalry troopers would discard things they didn't think they would need, so they just cast them beside the road.  Swords and sabres were among these items, especially during the Civil War when technology rapidly changed.

Also the sword could have been a trophy and just left behind as the troopers camped.

Any way, it is a great find --- there's still no other way to time travel and touch a part of history.
