Found an old axe head today on the farm. What is the best way to clean it?

I'd use a steel wire wheel. It'll take off the scaling rust and leave that lovely brown patina.

One you got it ceaned up you could bake it in the oven at say 200 for an hour to get any moisture out of it, and give it a coat of wax or laquer so it stays that way.
