But how did you date your find?  Was the house built in the 20's?  The Roring Twenties had gold coins so go over that area real good.

Wow nice collection of goodies.  Isn't it amazing the stuff people lose?  I never tire of using my detector because of the thrill of finding something new...and I'm never disapointed either.  I've found two Gold coins over the years and I'm always amazed at how new they look coming right out of the ground.  That thrill keeps me going.  Good luck to you down under.

Thank you Joe,defiantly agree with you. WOW 2 gold coins, bet you did the chicken dance when they turned up! are they both American coins and what were the dates on them.
Unfortunately  Tasmania is a young country and hasn't got much history behind it so the oldest coins that i can expect to find are in the late 1700's.
Would love to detect England and Europe with their ancient history...

                                          Cheers Tassie. Wink

Go Up Go Down

First one was a 1865-S USA $10 Gold Coin called an Eagle in coin collector language.  I found it at a land fill area and it was in good shape except for a very small scratch on the back side.  It was worth about $600 to $800 back in the 1980's.  I thought I'd struck it rich when I saw how great shape it was in.  The other was a one dollar US Gold coin in excellent condition but only worth about $400.  It was a 1832 I think, I sold it because I needed the money and only got about $200 for it.  It was so small I thought it was an ear ring made of gold plating and was surprised to find it was a coin.  Both were found at the same land fill area only months apart.  Can still remember the time of day, who I was with and other tid bits.  I didn't do a chicken dance but I sure was thrilled both times.  You guys must have had Gold souverns or what ever down under if your history goes back to the 1700's.  Did you know that an ancient Egyptian ship was wrecked and a Prince died from snake bite.  Evidence was found with hieroglyphics and a record of events on walls of a hidden cave type area.  That would be the place to use your metal detector.  Look it up on the internet and hopefully it will be close by.
