Just looked at the site - bet you are right! I found it in KS about 5 counties west of Leavenworth. I always thought if it was a military medal it would have had Ft on it. It has a weld scar on the back so something more was there at one time. Thanks for the ebay link, too. Interesting.

As an aside, I have a pinback of an Anti Horse Thief Association annual meeting from the 20s. Different fraternal group of guys banding together. I'm not really certain what they were up to, but I don't think having horses stolen was that big a problem. Sue

Sue..can you post a photo of the anti-Horse theaft pin.

I believe that in the 20s you could still be hanged for stealing horses in certian areas in the US

I have this pix of it handy - it's not as large as it would appear in the pix, but you get the idea. Sue

Sue, I think you are correct about the Horsey Badge being an "old Boys Club" after seeing it.

Now the bullet I can not ID with just that photo..however I do not think that is a Civil War round..I think it's much later...perhaps 1920s

Dean

Love that Badge!!!!

Here's some bullets I've found. I looked the AHTA up in Kansas: a cylopedia of state history.

"Anti Horse Thief Association.?Shortly after the commencement of the Civil war, lawless men in the border states?that is the states lying between the loyal and seceded states?banded themselves together for the purpose of plundering honest citizens. Missouri especially was subject to the depredations of these gangs, and in time the conditions became so bad that the law-abiding people found it necessary to take some action for defense. The first organization of this character was proposed at a meeting held at Luray, Mo., in Sept., 1863. At a second meeting, held at Millport, Mo., about a month later, a constitution and by-laws were adopted, and as horses seemed to be the principal objects of theft, the society took the name of the "Anti Horse Thief Association." The effectiveness of such an organization quickly became apparent, the order spread to other states, and in time covered a large expanse of territory. After the war was over, when the conditions that called the association into existence no longer existed, its scope was widened to include all kinds of thefts and a national organization was incorporated under the laws of Kansas.

Any reputable citizen over the age of 21 years is eligible for membership, widows of members receive all the protection to which their husbands were entitled while living, and other women may become "protective members" by payment of the regular fees and dues."
