Attached below is a picture of a miner's beaver hat found by Jungle Jim. The hat was dug out of a wet area in the midst of roots from bushes that lined a creek bed near our favorite ghost town. The hat, made from the pelt of beavers, is pictured on the heads of miner from the early mining days. The style was a favorite of the Virginia City, Nevada miners.
We think the wet soil conditions preserved the hat intact. There are holes and rips in the hat that probably existed before the hat was tossed into the the bushes by some miner who maybe bought a new one.
The Bowie knife discussed somewhere below was dug up about twenty feet from the beaver hat. Many great, mint bottles were dug from the same area.
