In the first picture, toward the upper left, looks like a mouthpiece for a brass musical instrument, like a trumpet, cornet or trombone.    Some kid must have hated taking music lessons so he threw the mouthpiece away.

I am like you in regards I hate to throw anything away.   If I dig it, and I can tell what it is, it usually finds a home somewhere around here.   It all tells a story, the first one usually being 'how did it get here?'  HH

Johnnnn... You might try this: I used to do lapidary and I used a rock tumbler. I placed all the rusty nuts and bolts and hardware that I came across in the tumbler and loaded it half up with clean sand and water and let it tumble for a day or two. Everything came out bright and shiny. The good stuff I dried out and dipped in oil and put them in the fastener drawer. The brass odds and ends I put in my "materials"  box. Everynow and then I pull something out and it becomes part of something else. With e-bay and craigs list I suspect a box of shiny brass junk will fetch a high price. I once sold an box of old keys for $15.00. under the title "keys to Nowhere". and they weren't shiny. gambol

Hi Gambol1,
I will do something with this stuff and cleaning it up is going to happen, I have my Granddaughters "tumbler" here and I have used it to bring back coins for circulation, its small but does a great job.

The "mouth piece" is one of 3 they are Bugler's from the 1860's Canadian militia.

Nice finds, I find it hard to turn loose of things I've found...lol...I just move stuff to new box every now and again to keep the wife from getting on me to much...lol.

Great stuff,
I wouldn't advocate throwing any thing away, as I am some what of a hoarder myself, I sure you know that all that brass and copper odds and ends has a price. a very good price these days. good luck
