Axe heads finder looks set for a windfall
Nov 10 2006
By The Journal

Metal detective Stephen Barrass could be in line for a windfall after discovering two Bronze Age axe heads in a field near his home.

Mr Barrass, a 41-year-old factory worker from Delves Lane, Consett, had been metal detecting for three years with hardly any success, until he found the 3,000-year-old artefacts - believed to have been a religious offering - just 10 inches below the surface of a field at nearby Castleside. . . . .

Mr Tweddle said he was not prepared to reveal at the hearing the exact location of the find, "because we don't want coachloads of metal detectives descending upon it". . . .

Couple Sees Virgin Mary, Jesus In Gold Nugget

Nugget Found In Arizona Desert

POSTED: 9:57 am EST November 10, 2006
SUN CITY, Airz. -- A search for gold in the Arizon desert has turned up something that's inspirational as well as valuable.

Burton Klatt, of Sun City, has been digging for the yellow stuff for years and has cases showcasing the nuggets he's found. However, getting more attention than the rest is one nugget that he said is shaped like the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus.

The nugget weighs less than an ounce and is smaller than a BB.

I find it hard to believe the so called nugget is less then  the size of a BB. I've found many nuggets in the past and anything that size wouldn't have the detail the photo shows so the nugget must be much larger then described

It also mentioned it weighs less then an ounce. If the nugget is smaller then a BB- it probably weighs only 5 to 10 grains or less. There are 480 grains to a troy ounce.

I doubt they would have even seen the shape of the Virgin Mary if it was the size of a BB in the first place.

You're right - no one would have looked that close at something so small. I know . . . just because it's in "print". . . . .  Kind of like that news story a month ago or so where the reporter kept calling the metal detector a medal detector throughout the article. Sue

It's a good picture so I think the nugget is larger then a BB. It takes special equipment to blow up a BB sized nugget into one that has that much detail.   It looks like a misprint.

I happened to view another photo of the nugget and it's much larger then a BB. My guess is it's about 3/16" high and weighs between 12- 15 grains.
