Thought I'd share this article from the Los Angeles Times newspaper where a treasure hunter, there, is interviewed.

Thanks Sue!

I love how the media portrays all treasure hunters as misguided psychopaths who forgo all responsibility in a fool's vain search. I'd say more but I need to hit the pawn shop for gas money to head to the hills....

Hi Sue

Sue thank you for this post. It is the story of a man who, despite these statements is as like all other researchers in this case, a passionate search for his own Holy Grail.

Kind regards

Luc

Hello All

Thank you Sue so for the interesting post.

Luc you make an interesting point. Treasure hunting can become a personnel quest to make that on big discovery, important for the soul, a sort of journey of discovery and the eternal need know.

There have been and many more to come have become believers. They all claim the holy grail but ultimately they all have one failing. No Ultimate unquestionable proof.

Treasure hunting attracts those romantics and dreamers of fortune and glory only never understanding the rules of the game. The world would be a sterile boring place if it wasn't for those dreamers who dared to dream.

And yes there is some treasure stories that made obsessed psychopaths becoming treasure hunters.

Idaho Jones the way fuel is these days I have find some treasure to pay for the fuel. Grin

Hardluck

That fuel stuff is expensive, I'm about ready to begin brewing it myself!

When every scrap of paper is a map, every rock a petroglyph, every bent tree limb a pointer it's time to step back. If one can disregard the evidence that points away in favor of imagined clues, or even manufacture clues to further the search I agree it's obsession.

On the other hand though, following a hunch or clue with the intention of true discovery of fortune and knowledge is something else indeed. Too many people are quick to write anyone off who is looking for anything to do with "treasure" in a high school clique sort of way.

Many archaeologists fall into all those camps too    Grin

Hello Idaho Jones

Sadly it is all too easy to written off as a crank.

There is an elitist mentality in field of archeology. Generally people from well off families that have all their lives lived in an Ivory towered world of academia. With the bigoted view that anyone but of their caliber are not capable of understanding the science behind the archeology.

Sadly too there has been many claims by individuals of utter nonsense that has reinforced that prejudice.

Common sense on both sides should prevail. If you expect to believed you must follow the same protocol of backing up your claims with evidence or references. Every treasure hunter or budding researchers has an obligation to become more articulate in their debate and in their research.

Archeologist should not be blinded either by academic snobbery and need to view such claims, case by case. and not simply write off some one because of their back ground.

Hardluck.
