Bad news in court today for the Odessey treasure hunting team.  The judge ruled that the $500 million in gold the team recovered from a shipwreck should be returned to Spain.  (The only problem is that it hasn't been clearly determined that it was a Spanish ship to begin with!) Sad

Well, all that matters is in which waters the wreck is / was. If it is in international waters then finder's keepers. However if it was in Spanish waters then Spain is the legitimate owner.

In my humble oppinion Odysee is a highly questionable company at best. Either you salave a wreck the legal way signing a contract with the owners (Spain) ... or if you don't then it isn't smart to bring a TV team with you in order to document your illegal activities and how you fly out the coins in the middle of the night in a secret aircharter.

Besides Odysee make a constant loss (still assuming they had a 500 Million $ wreck) - the only guys making money there are the CEOs. I consider Odysee to be unprofessional and fraudulent.

regards,

Christian

Still it seems pretty shoddy of Spain. If they knew one of their ships were sunk with that much gold aboard why didnt they look for it themselves.I guess its easier to wait until some one else does the work & expense then take it from them. Its been sunken for 100s of years, Spain had plenty time to salvage it themselves.

Exactly!  "Hey, wait!  That stuff's mine!  Yeah, I lost it a couple hundred years ago, and never bothered to look for it, but now that you've found it, I want it back!" Angry
