Go Up Go Down

In 1862 the Confederate schooner "Abbey Bee" left Steinhatchee, Florida with 2 tons of gold bars on board to purchase arms in Cuba. The Abbey Bee was intercepted by a Union gunboat that engaged the AB and set her on fire. The AB burned to the waterline and sank with no survivors. In 1978 a shrimper out of Crystal River snagged the anchor in his net and brought it up. He cut the chain and brought the anchor in to port. The anchor is a Kedge type from the 1850's era. The shrimper was drunk and his Loran was broken so he has no idea where he found the anchor. It can be seen today at Charlies Seafood Restaurant in Crystal River, Florida. I tried to post a picture of the anchor but it is 655 KB and this website will not let me post.

I'm wondering if this shrimper is still alive today?

It would Be good to chat with him on his recollection of the general area he was trawling, and then mark off some map grid and use a decent sidescan running the grid.

Thanks & good post Salvor6,  Great
Jim
