Awesome, thanks for the insight.  Wonder how many songs, poems, etc are out there that could lead to some real booty.

Whaaaaaaat?

Not one person dissed it!

Why do  I have to be the sourpuss? OK. I will face it bravely, here goes....

Yaaaa! if you believe pirates sang nursery rhymes in all the booze joints, in pirate-dom, then you HAVE to nbelieve the Vikings sold Vinland to Christofero Colon!

So there! Braaaak!

goldigger (nice story)

Yep String, It's amazing at the "nursery rhymes" we sing to our little ones and never wonder why the words we sing don't even make sense. Grin

Example:
Rock-a-bye baby,
In the tree tops.
When the wind blows,
The cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks,
The cradle will fall,
And down will come baby,
Cradle and all.

Now how's that supposed to be comforting to our babies that are supposed to fall out of the tree?  Grin

Thanks for a great post, HH,
Ken

There are a lot of those terror type nursery rhymes, most of them collected by the Brothers Grimm, so I do not believe the coded pirate bit.

They did eat black birds, back then, (affected  Haut Cuisine) and it took a lot of them to make a pie.

Look at Bouillabaise... takes a lot of fish and shellfish to make one bowl.

When it comes to eating squirrel, the ones here are not much bigger than mice, not like was eaten before the revolutionary war. biggggg! They ate all the big ones.  Shocked

I guess, what I am saying is do not judge your blackbird size by what is flying around, now.

Blackbird pie might have made as much sense as chicken pie.
