Go Up Go Down

My wife and I found an interesting item our last trip to the Treasure Coast in Sebastian, Florida. We were told by a local that it could be a tooth pick form the 1715 fleet. We haven't (obviously) tried to clean it up or anything but needed help in trying to identify this object. Pickings were quite slim but we have held onto this piece hoping someone could help identifying it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  Thanks for everyone's time.

It could be a sail needle for stitching the sails. I recall they found a chest full of sail needles off Florida years ago, but can't remember where.

I can't tell by the size but it has the right shape to be a marlinspike where the handle has rotted away, being wood. If people think it's a needle or toothpick, then it's clearly too small to be a marlinspike.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
