Go Up Go Down

Hello All, I have read about some shipwrecks around Vermillon Ohio and that some gold coins have washed ashore over the years. I believe this to be true but of course people are tight lipped about it which I cant blame them. Anyone ever heard of this happening? I know that there is at least a dozen wrecks there. Just looking for any information about the coins. I dont want to dive the area its probably protected by the state.  Thanks    Steve

She was thought to be carrying $100,000 in gold coinage in her safe and another $1500.00 in gold coinage in the captains strongbox. They have located her under the silt of lake erie. She had about 100 passengers aboard when she went down . 2 boilers exploded which killed some and burnt others. There were thirty that survived the wreck.  Thanks for looking   Steve

. Like I said I just wish to see if anyone has knowledge of the gold coins washing ashore. They could be from other shipwrecks also.

Thanks for this info. Nice web pages. In the early 70s Bob Brockett, a Whites distributor north of Pittsburgh did some detecting on a shipwreck in Lake Erie, Presque Isle I believe.

Go Up Go Down

I have done some research this winter and have found 2 other sites that people have found gold coins on a beach and another 12 miles away that they found American silver dollars on the beach. I am making plans to hit these beaches and the water there with my water machine this coming spring. They have come ashore over the years from shipwrecks. I dont expect to clean up on these coins but one would make my day.
