Hello Thunter . Great article but did you read they found the Vero Beach cache waste high in the water !!! Now that beach will be crawling with metal detectorists and their snorkels . I know I would be there asap if I lived in Florida . Thanks for posting .

HH...........Eugene

Eugene, yes that is true. They did find it in waist deep water. I do live about an hour and 30 minutes away from there and have detected the beach there. The only issues are,
 1. You can't detect in the water at that location unless you have a lease or sublease to do so. I am positive you would be arrested if you detected beyond the low tide line.
2. They had to blow holes 10' deep with the mailbox blower to get to the finds
3. the front beach is actually sanded in with several feet of sand which is typical for Florida east coast beaches during the summer which would mean you better  be prepared to dig through approximately 15  to 20 feet of sand on the beach
by the time you get that deep on the beach you will need to bulkhead the area off and have the sump pumps going because you will be under water if you don't.
