Hello All
When think of shipwrecks with possible treasure we think of remote places. The following shipwreck could contain if the legends are true a fortune of coin just off the pier in the between 131st and 135th Streets in the Bronx, New York
The Hussar was British wooden hulled sailing vessel was built by Robert Inwood in 1763. She was 124 feet long had a 33 foot beam and displaced 627 gross tons.
In November of 1780 the Hussar struck a rock and sank while trying to navigate through Hells Gate in the East River. There has been many claims that the Hussar was carrying sterling as well as seventy prisoners of war in her hold when she went down.
Over many years there has been several salvage attempts. Many treasure hunters claim to have proof of a sunken treasure. However, In her court marshal reports there was no claim or mention of the prisoners or any treasure. In 1819 several of the wrecks cannons and fittings were allegedly were recovered.
The mystery still remains does the Hussar have a fortune on her?
Hardluck
