Are there any commercial MD's made for deep water metal detecting.  Or do you have to use a land based on and somehow put it in a watertight enclosure (like underwater cameras)?

Unoftunately I have to disagree with Hunter. I had once owned a Pulse 8X which I bought 2nd hand from a Mel Fisher Crew member and it was unfortunately not good. Well, it does the job and works well but considering its high price tag I would rather buy a Aquapulse which has a more up to date circuit and is way better manufactured. Just my two cents Smiley

Regards,

Christian

Hello everyone . I read a field test that the Detector Pro Headhunter Pulse has much better Depth / Sensitivity on "Gold" than the jw fisher 8x , and a lot less money !!! There are several underwater machines on the market so you do have choices !!!
Anyone else please comment , 2nd opinions are very welcome on Thunting.com

The ELSEC 5000 is a professional deep water metal detector. The ELSEC 2000 was the best of its time. I never used the 5000.

The question is, how deep do you want to go? If you only want it for shallow water hunting say up to 20 feet, then there are many that can fill your needs. If you want to hunt for smaller items such as coins and jewelry, another distinction, and common units exist used and new. If you want 5 gallon can or larger detection, then it is another story. If you need one for say 300+ feet deep, than that is a different world again. Most high end are good for 200 feet or so, the specs will say on each detector make. Pulse detectors of course do not really discriminate such as a VLF will do. They do have a minor discriminate on some, such as the Garrett Infinium, but not much use in most beach hunting cases. I know Eric Foster of Pulse Power Developments in England builds industrial quality pulse detectors for major companys. I have a Aquastar2 (made for the serious UW detectorist and was priced at $2000) which he no longer makes, and it is a truly waterproof detector in an Ikelite case which they no longer make, and that is why he quit making them . He makes other models now and they work fine, not cheap, but excellent quality. He helped design the latest Whites pulse detectors. Their underwater pulse detectors will work to at least 100 feet. If you can find a decent high end UW pulse detector it could easily run you $400-$1400. I had one of the Headhunter PI detectors a few years ago. Was easy to use and could find a ring in the water or on the beach at 8" easy enough. No discriminate so you dig everything. Pretty solid and light detector and I had no problems with it, used price usually is about $400.
