Go Up Go Down

I posted this in the Misc area and after thinking about it, thought it belonged here.  Sorry for the double post
I wanted to share another underwater recovery method I use its a airlift.  The principal is simple use a PVC pipe 7 to 15 feet long with a T about 12 inches off the bottom and install a ball valve with a air line fitting in the side.  Connect a air line from a compressor or a scuba tank and crack open the ball valve.  The process is simple as the air bubbles rise up the tube they get larger and create a vaccum and suck up the sand and silt blowing it out the top of the tube and the current carries them away from your area.  I put a screen to stop larger rocks from being sucked up the tube.  They work best between 10 and 20 feet of water and keep your search area vis alot better than fanning as anyone who has done this knows you can't see anything til the silt settles

Well I took out my new portable compressor and airlift to a spot I know and gave it a test run and it worked fine I do need a larger supply tank for the air but it cleared a area in the bottom of a swimming hole with little effort.  I picked up a few clad coins will try it in a few other places very soon.

Seems like a "stainer" would also keep out, coins, etc !
Here is So. Texas, the coins, I dive for/find, IE: 1554 Spanish Silver Reales, are about the size of a quarter!
AND!
At $ 1000-1500 each,   Smiley  I sure don't want that to happen!   Undecided

you don't want the coins to go up the airlift cptbil it is to clear the sand and silt away so you can pick them up and bag them.  thats why the strainer is there so you don't loose anything dime size or larger.

That's funny!
We always had our lifts, to suction up (lift ) and deposit the material into a screen or strainer.
Either on deck or underwater.
Because if you allow the end of the lift to become full, clogged, you'll be "a pick' shells offn' the end fur ever"!
Trying to keep it clear enough to have any suction!
Now!
If you use a blower arrangement, to remove/blow the sand gently away from you targets,!!! Instead of trying to suction sand away,   :Smiley

The reason to use the suction is to not loose the vis that you do if using a blower.   Grin

Here is a picture of the airlift I made from 2" PVC. The fitting at the end will fit a power inflator hose.
