Go Up Go Down

Last month i got my new Technetics G2 and on last sunday went to a dig on a Roman villa site, i had heard that the site had been done by another club once in the past and thought maybe we would have a chance of finding some coins.
Anyway i started detecting and within a few minutes had a sestersius and a other bits and pieces ,
By the end of the day i had a total of 8 roman coins and a old key (not very old) and some lead.
I found that the detector is a little difficult to use on that type of site with all the iron and mineralisation but so was most of the other types, at most the coin finds were only coming up at between 3 and 6 inches.
The G2 a lot of the time would give a iron signal for a roman coin or even other good contacts so i just dug all.
I had the machine set at 2 o'clock sensitivity for depth and 35 discimination.
I think it is a good machine and i think would be even better on a medieval site for hammered coins, maybe in a couple of weeks i will be able to give a report on that.
I am planning to use it on a shingle beach in the next few weeks too where i think it would be good for coin shooting, though i doubt it would match the E.Trac or Sovereign or be any good in the salt water like them but thats not what i bought it for.
In my opinion its a good machine for the starter and as a backup or even as a main machine, it does have limitations i think but that will have to be studied a bit more.

Richard

I may have had the settings wrong on the roman site and maybe should have gone all metal and gone by numbers instead but you live and learn Idiot.!
I do remember having a lot of iron signals on the site and not digging them, i will check them out in future. This is what happens when you are used to a Minelab E.Trac, if an E.Trac says its iron , it usually is.
I will be going back to that site but on another field in the next few weeks and will see what happens.
When the beach is given a good hammering by a storm i will get on that too, i have met someone who uses the F75 on the beach and he says he gets on well with it there so maybe the G2 will too.
I went on the beach today with the Explorer XS and found only ?9.27p under the pier, it was the only part of the beach that wasn't full of shingle. When the main beach is cleared of shingle i will need a bucket for the finds. Cheesy

I expect you'll really like the G2 once you get past the learning curve.  Sounds likes it is doing well for you even while you are learning it.

Well, in the states we call those stones, rocks or pebbles. Shingles go on a roof... but you wouldn't know that
