TENNESSEE:         PERMIT APPLICATION FOR  METAL DETECTING ON TVA PROPERTY (TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY)

Guidelines for the use of metal detectors on TVA lands
Anyone wishing to use a metal detector must complete an Application for Metal Detecting Permit from TVA website and receive a permit before the detector can be used on TVA lands. The application form includes a summary of guidelines and procedures and the address for mailing the application can be found at the following website:

I only recently became aware of these guidelines but, found it to be a simple process to get a permit. It took about 2 weeks after I mailed in my application to receive my card and the permit is good for two years. You will need to send them a photo-copy of your driver's license and I  suggest you use the license plate number from the vehicle you use the most to go T-hunting. While at there website you can read up on the rest of their guidelines. It sounded very restrictive when I read it and I contacted a TVA federal officer to get some clarifications.  He said, "Like anyone else that allows you to dig in their front yard, leave it like it was before you hunted it, as if you had never been there". Cut plugs in their manicured lawns and fill them neatly and fill your shovel holes while in the woods. (small shovel) Follow the 10 commandments of Metal Detecting, use common sense and you won't have any problems and you won't create any problems for the rest of us.
Happy Hunting you all.
