Thank you again Tabdog. So most of what i will be doing is looking for coins and jewelry. I want to be able to find Gold rings and such so the ED120 should be fine then, right? I am starting to think maybe the Cibola with the GB upgrade like the one described in this link.

What ya think? Yes, no, maybe? A different model be better for just coins and jewelry? The Discovery i now use has 4 tones and and ID window with discriminate and sensitivity adjustments. I can hunt in AM or Disc. I still wonder how you can tell what a target is with just the one tone the Teseoros have? Do you just dig everything? Guess that really wouldn't be a bad thing as i did most every target now because i run on AM all the time so i can have a better chance at gold jewelry. At least that was my thinking. Heck, maybe for what i want to do the Discovery is just fine? Maybe it is ME that needs upgraded. Cheesy

Hay Rebel,

Thanks for that link.

I was reading the post over on tha find
mall when he was doing his modification.
He posted pictures and got some help
from some guys on different forums.

That was the first I saw that finish
article he wrote about it though, so
thanks.

Most people do turn their noses up
at tha mention of single tone.

They equate them with toys.

Most people just do not like them.

I am just the opposite.

I have always used tone. I tried TID
machines. Did not like tha ones I tried.

I kept goin from machine to machine.

I was mad and frustrated. I got mad at
a dealer for "sellin me lemmons". But
I was the real lemmon,,, lol

That guy sent me a used Cibola. He said
"If you like it send me $275. If you don't
like it, send it back and we will fix it,
what ever it is".

Darn thing was not used at all. Still had
the Factory battery with a full charge on
it. No scratches,,,,, NONE!

I think I liked it in 30 minutes.... After
2 hours, you could not drag it away from
me.

I simply loved that Cibola.

I sold it because I wanted a Vaquero
with manual ground balance.

I wish I still had that Cibola. I liked it
better than I do the Vaquero.

But, I really like tha Vaqureo. So go
figger?Huh?

Ever body can not do like me.

But,

I do not use any disc when I am swinging.
I want the full sound. Disc and too little
sensativity masks the sound.

But sometimes I may disc just to iron.
But only if I have to.

I listen for a good target.

If I like a target, I thumb tha disc to find
out tha disc point, and to size and determin
depth.

The all metal mode is a little better on tha
Cibola as well as tha disc mode.

The all metal on either will help a bunch in
telling you stuff about tha target.

If I tell you what, it will sound like what I use
tha disc mod for, but tha all metal does some
things better and tha disc mode does other
things better. That is why they are there.

The Silver uMax is a real good machine and
a good way to learn tone.

It is hot on coins and rings.

Heck, I am not too proud to say that Ace 250
will do real well. It is super slow compared to
a Tesoro. Some of us have a hard time putting
up with it.

It is easy to mask in trasy places.

Tesoro can seperate and pick tha stuff out.

But, if you are less experienced, it may not
make that much difference to you.

All I can do is give my experience and what I
know.

Tesoro did not hang tha moon. But tha speed
and light weight and the hunger for gold and
relics, along with tha good price, that is tha
way to go for me,

Tabdog

Your welcome for the link, glad ya liked it.
Thanks for the useful info. I have a bid in now on a Cutlass II which is the predecessor of the Silver Umax. It doesn't have the sensitivity adjustment but should be ok to learn on.

Hello Rebel and Everyone . Tesoro makes Great Metal Detectors and in my opinion are much better than Bounty Hunter . One very important thing to remember is the type of search coil you use can be the difference between hitting and missing valuable targets . Here is a good link that gives some good information on older Tesoro models . If ever you decide you want to build a metal detector , here on Thunting.com we have many Tesoro projects in our "Tech Talk" area . Building your own Metal Detector has become a huge Hobby around the world and most have chosen discontinued Tesoro models to build . Most popular in order are the Golden Sabre , Eldorado , Silver Sabre and the Original version "VLF Lobo" which is not only good on Gold but Hot on Coins . If you use the Cutlass II with an 8 inch widescan Tesoro search-coil at the beach you will hit more targets than using the Tesoro concentric coil ............ If you do not buy the Cutlass II than build or buy the Eldorado !!!!! Here is the link I found today.........Regards..............Eugene

Eugene, i had just finished reading those reviews. Got outbid on the Cutlass II. Took it up to $92. Not sure how much one is really worth. Can get a new Silver Umax $239.20 shipped. Still thinking i would prefer a Cibola though but can't seem to find a used one at a reasonable price.

So, which would be the better deal a Cutlass II for around $125 or a Cibloa for around $225?

I would lean toward the Ciboa.

It has more to offer.

The Cutless II is a good deal,

But, for me, the Compadre has

more to offer.

But, I feel sure most would be

more inclined to go with tha

Cutless II than a Compadre.

You have to concider the condition

of the machines.

I went through that with a Euro

Sabre uMax and an Eldorado.

I ended up with both of them.

It can be a hard decission,

Tabdog

Well that completely confuses me.  Grin So either or both. Or a Compadre which has less features than the Cutless? Ohh boy. Cheesy Why the Compadre over the Cutlass II?

I guess you did not know.

Tha Compadre is just about my favorite
machine.

I have two.

The one with tha 7" coil is MrSpeedy{alt}

And the one with the 5.75 is MisSpeedy{alt}

She looks kind of plain, but do not tell
her that. She thinks she is hot.

The reason I like my Speedys so much
is because they find most of my gold.
They do best where it is at.

You can not beat a Compadre in most
playgrounds. Not in Tabdogs hands,
you can not.

Sorry if I sound over confident.

But, hay, maybe that is what it takes.

I know I can do it because I have done
it.

Anyway, That is how I like tha Compadre,

Tabdog
