While reading a history of the local area I came across this paragraph. I bet this would make for an intersting place to hunt if it could be found.

"Many stories are recalled of those years. Woman remember with fondness "wash days" A place, complete with pots, tubs, tables, and benches had been set up on the river bank. Here the companionship of other wives and neighbors lessened the drudgery of the heavy family wash.~"

From what I can tell from the book this place was at probably used sometime from 1902 to 1918.

This is one I had to look up as I had heard of Santa Elena, Texas, but never Elena, Texas.   Turns out it also goes by the name of Highlands and is close to the Lynchburg Ferry landing.

You're right, though, it does sound like it has a lot of potential

LOL! I figured you would be the one!! I left that part out on purpose just to see who would be the first. Sorry!!

It is now Highlands and from the reading it sounds like the rice farm company set up the wash area, but I could be reading it wrong. I am going to read again tommorow and see if I missed anything.

Another good place would be what the are calling "the big building" still reading on it. Looks like there was a large community building erected some time around 1937 and that is where all the town happening went on. Mentions going to wrestling matches there. Also mention there being a 6" water well drill with the building, but I could not find it on the topo map of the '50s.

I will post more when I find it.
