Sound like you may be a little new to detecting. Start in your own front yard. little league fields, Church play grounds, Any place there have been people. Lately I have been checking fire works stands. Be careful of no trespassing, Texas can be tough. I hope you go hunting for the fun it. I have been hunting since 1969 and have never found the mother load. I've had lots of fun with it.  I live in north Texas.

check out old maps at the libary(sanborn and such)talk to some of the old-timers in town(they love to talk and have great info)it really depends on what type of hunting you want to do.for some it takes gold bars and others a square nail is treasure.best of luck!

One challenge you will have is that all Texas State parks are closed to metal detecting.   City or county parks may or may not be open to hunting----you will need to check the city and county rules, regs, and ordinances before you hunt.   IF metal detecting is allowed in Burnett county parks or Marble Falls city parks, you might find city and county parks there worth hunting.  It has been a tourist attraction for a long time.   And if you don't mind a short drive (by Texas standards) gold has been found in Llano county.

I'd also suggest searching for a metal detecting club in your area.

If you are upset at BA's comment (you do seem to be), please consider this. Others read these words and when advice is given, it is always with the broader audience of other readers in mind. When I read his post, I understood what he was doing. Giving incomplete information can get others in trouble so in your case, try to suffer these kinds of comments in silence. It's definitely not personal and it could save a newbie from a problem in the field.

Bear in mind that this is not private e-mail and anyone in the world can read these words. Bad advice included. We try to avoid bad advice here.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
