Has anybody done some extensive research or have some experience with Sublette's Lost Gold Mine?  This is a story that keeps coming up in looking through literature.  As I have it the mine is supposed to be in Southeastern New Mexico or on the Texas side of the line.  Anybody current on this topic?

My research shows that Sublette never had  mine but found a cache of nuggets and ore hidden in the Guadalupe's, most likely by Indians that had robbed a pack train and cached the gold in a cave. Many years later some empty boxes like the ones used by Wells Fargo to transport gold was found in a cave in the area that people figured Sublettes mine was.

I've read substantiation for both ways , I would like to believe there's a mine, but the evidence seems to point to the latter.
