How about telling or sharing your knowledge of where you can detect on Texas beaches and where you stayed? I want to go to Rockport for a couple of days. Is the city beach crew detector friendly? Where is a reasonably nice (cheap) place to stay?

If no-one knows...I will go find out and report back!

I go to Rockport several times a year good place to hunt. There are some nice places to stay but I use a friends beach house in the off season or camp in one of the parks, so can't say about motels.
All Texas beaches are open for detecting but State or National Parks and over the last year a few city park but no problem in RP that I have heard.

I read Rockport's city ordinances on line and I can't find anything against it either. Well off I go pretty soon then. I'll bring pics back when I go.

I'm just outside of Randolf Airfield in San Antonio. Converse is the town but its all S/A

Ah, I believe that is Randolph Airfield. Not Randolf. ANYWAY, I am off to Rockport Sunday. I have a room booked at the America's Best Value Inn for $70 bucks a night. Will give reviews daily!

In Rockport you can get a $4 one day pass to the park or a $10 annual pass. Hmmmm which should I do. I will be here three days. Wink

Its very windy here, the beaches are pretty much empty. The water has a foul smell sometimes like methane. My wife says that's the ocean floor turning over because of the high wind. I have seen jelly fish but people are still swimming. We fished all day and caught a few. I asked the guy at the front gate for permission to MD, he said "Oh yeah, they do that here all the time". So I wonder how good the hunting will be. I will find out today. I'm going to the most populated part of the beach that I saw on Sunday night.

We are staying at the America's best value inn for $70 a night. There are two other local places that advertise for $50 a night. Anything cheaper than that looks scarey.
