Go Up Go Down

My 8 yr old little girl was with me at the site of an old house when I dug up a target to find it full of big coins!  I started pulling them out of the hole and even the wad that I had pulled out.  I believe that the final count was 17 but I would have sworn that it was a huge find at first!

I actually got nervous and started looking around like I was getting paranoid! Funny

It did not take long to see that they were roughly ten years too young to be real silver but I still thought that there could have been a bunch more so that hole was dug a little deeper until I realized that it was just a cruel joke that the detecting gods had played on me.

Looking back I can laugh about it though.  I was looking so hard for an incredible find that I would not have known what to do with it if I had truly gotten lucky!  I can only imagine how goofy I would have acted if there really was a silver hoard in that hole!  I have used some of the half dollars to get batteries since I always said that I would never spend my own money on this hobby.  The few that I still have are attached below...

This happened six or so months ago but after thinking about it I now remember that I actually did get my little girl to keep an eye out for anyone that might see us digging it up!

Talk about a rush for a minute or so! Idiot

[/quote]     Believe me Tri City Ditty, I know that feeling. When I saw the barrel of this sticking up after digging under 6" and than removing a big rock I thought I found the real thing. Started thinking even before I got it out of the ground who buried it and more so why? My mind went from bonnie and clyde to jesse james...Only to reveal this nice cap gun. (its the upside down one in the photo at the bottom. Just toke the pic while it was in the display case) Size of the real thing.

Ha. My uncle found a toy gun the other day, as well.  Coins are better than pull-tabs ANY day. No matter what the denomination.

TRI, they are not silver but the thing like you said at leased you can spend then on batteries,

I know we have coins over here thousands of years old and yes they arenice to find, but I like finding the new ones too
they pay for the diesel to go detecting, I always find something, but its the finding that is the Buzz and doing this hobby.

so weldone with your finds and keep going, by the way which machine was you using?

AU

I recall using the MPX that day only to find out that it was not working 100%.  I believe that after trying to tweak it's pots while installing a volume pot that I did not get those little adjustment pots back in the exact same spots.  The unit did not have quite the depth that it had before.

Maybe it was all in my head but I will be taking the Fluke scope meter to it to figure out a few things and see about tweaking it for the better this time.  I will remember where each pot is this time though. Wink

That is one of the reasons why I have levitated towards using the 505 most of the time.
