Go Up Go Down

Detected this morning in a field for a little over 2 hours along what is known as the ?Todesweg? or Death Alley.  This small road predates the town and is over 1000 years old.  It got its name because in the old days, when someone died of plague or something contagious, they were not allowed to bring the body through the town so, they had to travel along Death Alley around the town.  Had a good hunt however, we turned the clocks back last night and I forgot to set my cell phone.  After a good hour detecting I checked the time and oh my gosh, I?m going to late for lunch so I packed it up and drove off, looked down at my car clock and duh, I have another hour to detect.  Thought that was a quick 2 hours, LOL, so I did a U turn and finished the hour.  Made a few interesting finds.  Here is the field I detected and Death Alley.
{alt}
Two musket balls and a 3 ring bullet.
{alt}
A few relics.  A bezel of sort that looks to have held a stone or something and a whatsit.  It may have been a tool of sort or maybe a trigger guard.  I have found many musket balls, bullets, a few military buttons and other military paraphernalia around this area.
{alt}
Another view of the relics.
{alt}
Obverse of a very bent coin or medallion, large and thick.  I can make out a person standing in the center and a possible date at the bottom of 1900 or the number 900.
{alt}
Close up of the date.
{alt}
Reverse, has vague details but I can not make anything of them.
{alt}
It is a 1900 French 10 Centime, was tough to ID.  HH, Mike

Obverse of a nice little 1835 silver 3 Kreuzer coin.  The light gave it an orange tint.
{alt}
Reverse of the 1835.  A little windy this morning but, still a nice hunt.  HH, Mike

Thanks for sharing, Mike.  I love the way you illustrate your posts with great pictures.  What part of the year is the best time for hunting fields? I suppose when the crops are up it is too late for good hunting.

Hi Dandequille, spring is the best time as the fields have been laying under snow all winter and are compacted but, the detecting time is short lived as the fields get planted quickly.  Fall after harvesting is also a great time and the fields can be hunted for months until the big freeze but, most fields are plowed and there is a lot of air in the soil so I don't get much depth.  I will admit, most field finds are not much deeper than 6" so I hunt the fields again the next year, find less trash as I take it all out and still come up with nice finds.  Hope that makes sense.  HH, Mike

Mike,
    Is May to late to hunt fields?  Perhaps my son and I will come to Germany next spring to hunt.  We have an awesome place to hunt in the woods where some of the good finds in the Relic forum are pictured, but it might be fun to hunt fields too.
