The plan is, I'll wait a couple weeks, show the wife how you can't even tell where I dug, and then I'll get my wish!

Brave man.

A couple of tips for you. Use a tulip plug garden tool and dig a plug first. Put every bit and crumb of soil on a large paper plate so there's no dirt visible later. When you restore the hole, just before putting on the plug, add a few grains of fertilizer and then water pour some water on it all from the watering can setting down next to that small plastic butter tub of fertilizer beads. Use paper plates, not plastic, because you can fold it into a V each time to make pouring the dirt into the hole easier.

Oh, yeah. Spoken by a pro here. BTDT = Been There, Done That

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Kiss  Send her off on a weekend trip and dig away. When she gets back tell her you had sewer problems and had trouble finding the sewer line. Kiss Shocked

I don't think she'd buy the sewer one.  I think what I'll end up doing is just got out and dig one or two targets every once in awhile.  That way, I don't damage the yard and I can drag out some finds.

You tell her in no uncertain terms that half of that yard is yours and you'll do what you want with it. Tell her to stay in her place and her side of the yard.

After you get back from the emergency room, pick a good spot in the dog house and explain to the dog why he has to sleep outside.
