Decided to put in a few hours today in a local field close to home and came away rather happy, apart from a few buttons i found a Postumus - Billon antoninianus dated between 260 and 268 AD and a rather nice livery button.

  Funny

great finds.  Any pro tips for finding treasure locally?  How much research goes into the finding?  Or is it just going out and looking in open fields and hoping for the best?

Hello:
I saw an ad of someone selling coins of emperor Postumus, pointing out his remarkable likeness to Santa Claus. Well, they both have large beards,I guess.

I have said this before and I say it again.  I am jealous that you can find things thousands of years old.  Good job.

Well I feel astounished to see youtube videos of folks going to a park or the woods and quickly digging out silver coins and indian head pennies. I go to those places and so far the only coins I dug out are clad! Angry. How do they do it?

Research is what it takes. Good solid leads to where people have been hundreds of years ago.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
